Discover Ruapehu’s diverse natural landscapes from this charming old timber town, situated between Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks.
One of the Southern Hemisphere’s oldest picture theatres is just one architectural gem awaiting your admiration along Raetihi’s main street – touted as the widest in New Zealand.
Once accessible only via the Whanganui River, today Raetihi lies at a major regional junction affording access to iconic attractions such as the Bridge to Nowhere, Mangapurua mountain bike track (part of the Mountains to Sea Trail), and the many outdoor adventures of Tongariro National Park.
Raetihi is also the major town on SH4 between Ruapehu and Whanganui, a highly scenic road trip taking in the history-rich Whanganui River Road.
