Medlands Beach - Abel Tasman National Park

Cruise into the heart of Abel Tasman National Park to disembark at idyllic Medlands Beach. From here, the coastal track weaves through sunny groves of Mānuka and fern between breathtaking views of the granite coast and lush gullies of mature forest, to reach tranquil forest pools and long golden sand beaches.

Cross the rushing Falls River by way of an impressive swing bridge. Allow an extra 30 minutes to take a short (500m) side track beside a forest stream to visit Cleopatra's Pool.

Alternative routes

• If you are feeling energetic, you can add up to 1.5 hours walking Anchorage - Te Pukatea Bay return.

Getting there

• Kaiteriteri and Mārahau are popular entry points to the Abel Tasman National Park, from which you can jump off to various parts of the track. Both are approximately 1 hour from Nelson. Allow another hour for the boat journey. 
• Wilsons Abel Tasman(opens in new window) and Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle have boat  transfers departing from Kaiteriteri. 
• Abel Tasman Aqua Taxi(opens in new window) and Mārahau Water Taxis (opens in new window)have boat transfers departing from Mārahau. 

Need to know

Anchorage Beach has a Department of Conservation hut and camp ground with drinking water, shelter, picnic tables and toilet facilities.
