This is a dual walking/mountain-biking track.
Discover mining relics, travel alongside the Ohinemuri River, and experience the large Karangahake Gorge.
Walking the Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway is an excellent activity if you're in the area or on your way to a Coromandel beach.
The track mirrors the bends of the Ohinemuri River with lots of signs of the old railway times. It eventually reaches Owharoa Falls and the entrance to the Victoria Battery. Spot old mining relics in several locations too.
A shorter loop section can be walked, that includes two bridges and the 1100 m railway tunnel.
Track conditions often change. Be prepared by checking with the Department of Conservation before you go.
