Unmissable Dunedin designers

Blurring the line between classic feminine beauty and contemporary designs, Charmaine Reveley is one of Dunedin’s most loved designers. Growing up in her mum’s dressmaking business on a Canterbury farm, Charmaine’s rural roots have influenced her grounded, down-to-earth fashion label. Her flagship boutique is located on Dunedin’s main street.

The words ‘tough’ and ‘elegant’ don’t usually go together in fashion, but for Mild Red, the brainchild of Donna Tulloch, her monochromatic designs embody both descriptions to a tee. A favourite of locals and well-known in both New Zealand and Australia, you’ll love this label if you enjoy making a statement with your outfits. Her boutique is a creative oasis, and with doors imported from Morocco, floating counter furniture and a statement concrete courtyard, a visit here is the ultimate shopping experience.

For an enticing collection of high quality garments, leather and jewellery, Company of Strangers crafts fashion & accessories that embody a compelling combination of romance and rock ‘n’ roll. Inspired by a love of heirloom jewellery, designer Sara Munro and jeweller Anne Mieke Ytsma teamed up to create a brand known for its emotive, slightly eccentric collections. The flagship store, located in George Street, is beautiful.

The iconic Nom*D fashion label is among the small number of directional fashion labels which have been responsible for defining the style that is now referred to as the ‘New Zealand Look’ on the world stage. In 1999, NOM*D was part of the ground breaking four New Zealand fashion labels – as well as Karen Walker, WORLD and Zambesi – to show for the first time at London Fashion Week in 1999. With collections known for their dark, intellectual qualities, NOM*D’s stunning flagship store in George Street is a must-see for lovers of trend-setting, distinctive New Zealand fashion.

Young designer Jessie Wong’s leather goods label Yu Mei (meaning young and beautiful) is known for their handmade, buttery-soft clutches and handbags. An enticing combination of purpose and prettiness, they’re designed with simplicity and elegance in mind. A Yu Mei bag or clutch is the perfect New Zealand souvenir or gift. Discover Yu Mei at Slick Willy’s on Dunedin’s George Street.
