The walk can be done in either direction.
This varied walk will take you from central Wellington into the suburbs, hills, and south coast.
Starting from Bolton St cemetery this picturesque walk is well-signposted with orange arrows along the route.
Along the way you'll pass:
Outside of the city, the walkway takes you through some exposed ridges and hilly tracks.
Getting there
The City to Sea Walkway starts in central Wellington near Parliament, from the Bolton St cemetery. You can also walk the track in the reverse direction from Island Bay, at Shorland Park.
At the end of the walk, catch a No 1 bus back to the city from Island Bay.
Need to know
You can walk the City to Sea in sections and there are many possible variations. Parts of the track are also part of Te Araroa, the National Walkway. To complete the walk in one day you should have a good level of fitness.
