Visit the Art Deco Centre, and discover the real Napier. On 3rd February 1931 the city was reduced to rubble by a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake. Buildings were destroyed and hundreds of people lost their lives. From the destruction rose a magnificent new Art Deco City, designed and built within a remarkable two year period in the contemporary style of the era. View the 'The Day that Changed the Bay' a short film about the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. Shown every half hour. With a range of unique gifts, books, gifts and souvenirs you'll find everything you need to take your memories of Napier home with you. Open daily (except Christmas Day) 9.00am to 5.00pm (1 Oct - 31 Mar) 9.30am - 2.30pm (1 Apr - 30 Sep).
