About

Day 1:
The Rail trail follows the old railway out of Thames and through the Hauraki plains country, with views of the Southern Coromandel Ranges. Farm animals and the many wooden bridges over streams gives a special touch to the journey. Coffee stops along the way, and the Maritime Museum just out of Paeroa.
Night in a good Paeroa motel, hotel (min 3*, included).

Day 2:
This popular section of the Rail Trail leads through the Karangahake Gorge following the Ohinemuri River. A deep canyon cutting through the Ranges. This area has breathtaking landscapes and boasts with interesting history of gold digging.
Duration: Day 1: 4-5 hours (incl. lunch stop), 34 km. Day 2: 6-7 hours (incl. walks/attractions), 24 km.
