Te Whara Track

Te Whara Track begins sharply with a steep walk to the ridgeline. However, once there, the trail becomes more gentle as you make your way through some of the best coastal forests in the North Island.

At the Te Whara/Bream Head summit, hikers are greeted with panoramic views that stretch from Cape Brett (Motukokako) in the north to Cape Rodney (Tāwharanui) in the south. On a clear day, the region's offshore islands litter the skyline. Near the summit are the remains of a WWII radar station.

Alternative routes:

• Halfway along the ridgeline the Peach Cove Track intersects the trail. Turn right to visit Peach Cove or take the trail back to Ocean Beach Road. 
• Turn left at Smugglers Track to follow the loop track around the headland or turn right to finish your walk at Urquharts Bay.

Getting there:

You can walk this trail in both directions

• Access from the Ocean Beach carpark on Ranui Rd.
• Access from Urquharts Bay carpark

Bream Head environment is currently undergoing restoration including a re-vegetation programme, weed and pest control.

• Please stick to the marked tracks.
• Do not interfere with pest traps.
