Undoubtedly a geothermal wonderland, Taupō is home to boiling mud pools, steaming vents, coloured volcanic rock formations and natural thermal pools.
A trip to Craters of the Moon is an absolute must when visiting the region. The accessible boardwalk trail meanders its way through some of the most breathtaking natural wonders hidden within the region.
Further north on State Highway 5, tucked away in exclusive privacy lies the Hidden Valley of Orakei Korako. Here you will find hot springs, bubbling mud pools and some of the largest silica terraces in the world, as well as the most active geysers found in New Zealand.
And finally, no visit is complete without a relaxing soak in one of Taupō's natural thermal pools.
