Lake Taupō is New Zealand's largest lake - perfect to explore by kayak at any time of year.
The scenic Western Bays of Lake Taupō are home to spectacular Māori rock carvings - accessible only by water. These carvings depict visionary Māori navigator Ngātoroirangi, as well as two smaller figures of celtic design. In summer you can take a refreshing dip in the lake, and many kayak tours offer a picnic lunch as well as cultural commentary on the Māori myths and legends that surround the area.
