About

Brilliantly coloured microbes cloak the hot rocks and tiny springs & geysers play. Explore the raw beauty of the world's youngest geothermal site on a self-guided, ecology-focused adventure among the craters of the spectacular Waimangu Volcanic Valley.
Walks vary in length from 1.5km to 4.5km, covering a range of geothermal activity, hot springs, volcanic craters, nature and wildlife. Enjoy views of mysterious and beautiful Inferno Crater which rises and falls as it heats and cools. See the delicate sinter terraces growing from minerals solidifying out of the hot spring water.
